Prayer for Reconnection: Diasporic Dreams

I bow my head

To look at the road my people,

Chained and whipped,

Traversed

I read spirits in every footstep

I follow scents of centuries

From Goree to Atlanta

I see footsteps of maroons

Before they ran circles around slavers

I follow indigenous seeds

Fallen from long hair

I know they will grow there

Where the devil led them

I bow my head

To commune with spirits

That refuse to bow to whips

Refuse to board their slaveships!
